Well folks - have arrived in Lochranza. The cycle up from Girvan was good, even cycling around Arran was OK until we reached the final hill, approx. 1000 feet. That would have been a slog, but against a wind gusting 20-30 miles per hour it was (politely) not very nice!!!!! The 50 meter road markers for the snow ploughs were used as goals, and I cycled two at a time then stopped to let my heart rate drop below 160. :-S Forgot to say but yesterday we met some people who were moving from somewhere in Lancashire to the Island of Coll. They had taken the furniture over on a van earlier in the year, then sold the van and were cycling up with posessions on bikes with panniers and trailers. They are living in a tent on the island until they have done up (no not a cottage!!) a caravan for the winter!!! How about it Fliss??
Harder day tomorrow up to Oban - we are heading for the testing days soon??
- Mark Parsons
- My name is Mark Parsons I'm a 49 year old who is hoping he is still in his mid-life crisis!! (rather than the male menopause). I have decided to try and raise some money for the Steeple Church Development Fund. Having been inspired by Mark Beaumont a fellow Dundonian. I came up with the idea of cycling around Scotland as it makes a change from John o' Groats to Land's End. I only found out later it was further and far more hilly!! I will be travelling a total of 1196 miles over a period of 17 days, an average of 70 miles per day. The total additive height attained over the whole trip is 31927 meters, which is equivalent to 3.6 times up Mount Everest - from sea level. Please help me by following me exploits and leaving me cheery messages and telling others about it. If you want to make a pledge all the better and thanks so much for your support. All the money pledged will go to the Steeple Development Project
I can speak for mum when I say that I DO NOT want to live in a tent........just saying :)

Doing well team. Hope the wind moves round to assist Mark but it will certainly be somewhere for a few days yet.
ReplyDeleteIn to radio silence 'til Mon but wishing you steady, safe progress over the weekend and shall be thinking of you too. Ken
You're doing so well; we're all talking about your progress. It was the talk of our oldies outing to Abernyte this afternoon and everyone is rooting for you. You are meeting lots of interesting people too, I'm sure. Maureen and David
ReplyDeleteI'm with Danielle all the way, no tent, no caravan - we like just a few little luxuries.
