My name is Mark Parsons I'm a 49 year old who is hoping he is still in his mid-life crisis!! (rather than the male menopause). I have decided to try and raise some money for the Steeple Church Development Fund. Having been inspired by Mark Beaumont a fellow Dundonian. I came up with the idea of cycling around Scotland as it makes a change from John o' Groats to Land's End. I only found out later it was further and far more hilly!! I will be travelling a total of 1196 miles over a period of 17 days, an average of 70 miles per day. The total additive height attained over the whole trip is 31927 meters, which is equivalent to 3.6 times up Mount Everest - from sea level. Please help me by following me exploits and leaving me cheery messages and telling others about it. If you want to make a pledge all the better and thanks so much for your support. All the money pledged will go to the Steeple Development Project

Sorry for the technical probs and you are all back with me.

Cycled from Armadale after getting the ferry from Mallaig. The were a few good hills alng the way but the worst thing was the constant driving rain. When you go down hills and reach a good speed it gets quite painful. I foubd it draining though as I got completely drenched. Had to get changed at lunch time to warm up. Wish I had packed my wetsuit. Weather tomorrow is likely to be the same I believe, and if you want a good laugh look at the wind forcasts for Monday up near ~Ullapool.

Very tired so I'm off to bed

Nihil desperandum. Just keep pedalling (he says glibly from the comfort of his warm, dry, armchair). Half way already!

  3. Hello Mark,

I hope today is been a better day than yesterday. It's really great that your doing this for the church renovation. I read it's not been sunshine and pretty weather.

When the going get's though just know I and other people from the congregation are rooting for you.

    Gob Bless,

  4. Hello Mark,

We'll make a Scot out of you yet with the amount of 'Scots love' you're getting from your team - though, if you become one, I might have to relinquish my membership!

You're well into the second half now and, after the next day or two, the map on my wall says it's downhill all the way. All you have to do in the meantime is to survive tomorrow! Based on what I know of you, you could encourage and motivate yourself just thinking of all those people you work with whose lack of faith has lost them money - and the others who are waiting to do so!

Think of you every night and morning - and in between. Lots of folk remembering you in prayer. As an adopted Scot I'm sure you'll know the song 'Keep right on to the end of the road...' Sing it when the wind will save anyone from having to hear you. Thankfully, you'll no longer need to be singing it when you get back to Dundee.

Look forward to seeing you arrive back in Dundee.

Joan sends her love too. Alex

  5. Suppppppppppp.

Instead of your snoring, we were kept awake from 6pm this morning with the burglar alarm going off in 10 minute internals for some strange reason. You may be cycling hundreds of miles but at least you can sleep well!

Hope you are still in one piece.

    Danielle xx

  7. No news from your blog so far this evening. Hope you're still alive. The forecast for tomorrow looks grim. I'd look for hurricane shelter and lie low, if I were you. What are you planning? Hope you're ok. We were on the Himalayas this afternoon (without oxygen) and it was really windy. Well, the putting green at St Andrews to be precise, but we were all thinking of you. Best wishes, Piers
