My name is Mark Parsons I'm a 49 year old who is hoping he is still in his mid-life crisis!! (rather than the male menopause). I have decided to try and raise some money for the Steeple Church Development Fund. Having been inspired by Mark Beaumont a fellow Dundonian. I came up with the idea of cycling around Scotland as it makes a change from John o' Groats to Land's End. I only found out later it was further and far more hilly!! I will be travelling a total of 1196 miles over a period of 17 days, an average of 70 miles per day. The total additive height attained over the whole trip is 31927 meters, which is equivalent to 3.6 times up Mount Everest - from sea level. Please help me by following me exploits and leaving me cheery messages and telling others about it. If you want to make a pledge all the better and thanks so much for your support. All the money pledged will go to the Steeple Development Project

Day 6

Just been blown up the coast to Arran, waiting for the boat. Had my first puncture yesterday, sussed out how to use my gas pump, but in doing so used up all the gas :-P
Had to call Joe to bring a pump. He was pumping up the tyre when he got to 90psi it exploded like a gunshot next to his ear, I think he thought I had got him at last...:-D
My body is still in reasonable order, including the pot belly unfortunately, we are being fed too well. For B'fast today we had bacon sausage lorne black pud sweet pud egg tomato and mushroom.
Ron and Betty Moffat were so very kind and welcoming.
Joe left us for a day today, we will meet him again in Oban, missing his coffee breaks already, M&S Italian filter coffee with Fliss's home made cake.
Just about to get on the ferry at Ardrossa very rough sea oh fun :-S

  1. Good to hear you are getting on OK. Looks like you could be in for a few choppy ferry crossings in the next few days :-))

  5. Hi Mark, well done! keep it up! I wonder how many of your coleagues have already lost money? I suppose that will be one of the things that keeps you going.

  6. Hi Mark,
Very glad to hear that you are doing well and with no major hiccups...Mind you, as with anything that involves Joe, i am still not sure if that tyre "exploded" purely by accident hehehe:-)
You might have your youngest fan yet, as everytime I log into your blog for updates, I have Leila with me and she points to the screen as calls out "Mark on bicycle".
Good luck Mark, all the best and keep peddling. God Bless.

  7. Hi Mark.
Great to read that your sense of humour is intact, even with punctures. Fliss said that on the last big cycle you were 'the most punctured person' in the group. Sounds painful - hope that's the last of the punctures. You're making great progress. I cycled to House Group and struggled against the wind for a whole half mile - and thought of you doing 140 times that each day! Our hero! Pedal well! Dave G.
